10 Questions with the CEO of Bixbee

Today’s blog post is all about our Co-Founder and CEO, Luis Manuel Garcia. Read on to learn about Bixbee’s origins, what’s important to the company, and what’s coming next.

1. What’s something that people would be surprised to learn about you?

Not ashamed to say this but I can be incredibly silly at times.

2. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?

Bixbee is known for quality, fun, ergonomics and our social mission. This value proposition really sets us apart from other backpack and accessory brands. My favorite part of Bixbee is that our products ignite the imagination and create smiles.

3. When you need to let loose from the Bixbee hive, what do you like to do?

I typically take hip hop classes but because of Covid I've been running which I don't really enjoy but it does clear my mind, alleviates any stress and helps me sleep soundly

4. What special trait do you have that helps you keep your team buzzed and ready to spread the Bixbee message?

I try my best to cultivate a working environment that exudes positivity. Across my team, I have hardworking people who understand our mission and what we stand for, and by allowing them to flourish in their skills, we all come away with the energy we need to get things done. This positive atmosphere also increases focus and gives us the drive to keep improving.

5. What did you learn about running a company early on, and how did it impact you?

When I was first building Bixbee, everything seemed like an immediate task and would put me in crisis mode. My reactions were often impulsive and emotional and not well thought out. Now, I’m better able to assess issues and not dwell on things that are outside of my control or that are fixable.

6. Why should we be interested in this company’s efforts to give back to the community?

Children are our future. The only way to ensure a sustainable future is through obtaining an education and/or skill. We are committed to helping as many children as we can and I think that’s worth celebrating.

7: What exactly is a Certified B Corp and why is it important?

B Corporations are a new kind of company, which use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. The unique thing about corporations of this nature is that they balance purpose and profit. They are always looking to prioritize community issues and help those in need.

8: What was the most moving story you’ve heard in regards to your BOGO efforts?

Our very first donation of schoolbags with supplies went to the orphan girls of Homes of Hope India where I had volunteered. My intention had come to fruition and seeing the effects of that first donation propelled my desire to do even more. We’ve since donated bags in the United States, Philippines, Rwanda, Thailand, India, Haiti and parts of South America.

9: How do you envision the company evolving over the coming decade?

Our vision is to be a globally recognized brand known for high quality products that ignite a child’s imagination. We also plan to evolve our social mission to help build schools, support school programs and provide scholarships. With everything going on in the world right now, we’re thinking ahead on how we can be the most useful and helpful to our customers, whatever comes next.

10: Any secret projects in the works that you can give hints about to The Hive?

We're super excited for 2021! It will hopefully bring the re-opening of Bixbee Imagination Station and we will be introducing a new animal to our Animal Pack collection, a limited edition collection called Pop Star, and new fun and imaginative prints.
